Exit Exam - A Necessity?
Concern about the quality of academia in the US has been mounting. Now the evidence speaks for itself. High School students are failing their exit exams and people are left wondering who is to blame. Chris Lopez has more.
Now that the state Supreme Court has stepped in to say California can proceed with requiring the graduating class of 2006 to pass its exit exam in order to get a diploma, I have these questions: How many seniors will not receive a diploma as a result of this action? If you failed the exit exam but have enough class credits to graduate, can you still graduate and just not get a diploma? Can you still get a GED without passing the state exit exam? These are the types of questions we'll look to answer in our coverage Thursday and the follow-up coverage we provide. I'm sure parents and students have other questions.
Exam Exam,
High School Diploma

Maybe it’s a good idea now that spam from every country around the world offers HS diplomas for a nominal fee. Employees often never check them anyway.

It's a little too late to point fingers who's to blame now. There's always summer school. Maybe this time we will put more effort to it.

The worst thing is that some 400000 of those who failed were exepted to colleges.

As a graduating high school student, I believe that a monkey could pass the exit exams. But for those who don't pass it after several tries, I really don't know what should happen to them. I guess you can blame the school system for their lack of knowledge for basic math and english skills. Although, I've noticed that those who do not pass the exams are the kids who don't pay attention, don't try, and showed no interest in school. When it comes down to it, I doubt the exit exams are the only thing holding them back from graduating.
And as for those who are not native americans, some slack should be given to them.

I think that if students apply themselves and actually study the subjects that they are being taught instead of going to school to "hang out" there would be no problems. How have all the many thousands of other students graduated by passing the exit exams?? The test itself is so basic that if you cannot pass then how are these students going to pass through life? I think that too many people are looking for excuses as to why the students are not passing and instead of looking at there learning behaviors, and whether or not they are actually doing the homework and/or studying. Instead they are looking at the educational system. It may not be perfect, but they must be doing something right if all these other kids are passing. And for those who are not native americans, if they have come this far and are in high school, they should be able to pass the test as well. Once again, it is not hard. This is knowlege that you should have before getting into college or starting a job. If a student can study and get a drivers licensce there is no reason they can't pass an exit exam.
